Today A good photography Friend of mine has organized a walk about in Grinnell Iowa which is just south west of Toledo 20 miles and South west of Marshalltown Iowa 20 miles or so.One of our first stops will be the Spalding Factory.
The Spalding Factory is a neat place to photograph. One of the Reasons is because I have captured the Best
Natural light that I have ever photographed during some of the harshest times to take pictures. The photos that I have posted are all naturally lite and if you view some of the other pictures that I have taken there all are natural light. The old Spalding Factory is one of those places that looks like there is nothing there except a few decaying buildings cluttering the view in basically a residential neighborhood.
However with most things that do not look like they are worth the time or effort to go check out, It is. In almost every direction there is something adding to the story, something that has seen more sitting in one place then most have there whole lives.
Like the Spalding Factory Our small home towns of Iowa have things with as much to tell.
With stories needing to be heard and retold before they are forgotten forever.

Grinnell Iowa is a smaller town. One thing that I've noticed in my many drives through the downtown area is it has a distinctive old feel to it.
The finish on this photo really helps to bring out the old time feel of the downtown area. This was taken on a winter afternoon...
during one of the family's drives. Most likely we went to get some coffee at the Grinnell Coffee Company. Unfortuneately it doesn't exist any more. They went out of business several months ago.
Another wonderful thing about Grinnell is its acrchitecture. I will be posting some more blogs that show some of this off in the next few days.
